Student privacy,
no fine print.
Effective October 7, 2026. This is the whole policy — no fine print hiding behind it.
Who we are
Super-Self Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. MoodCheck is our student check-in platform, operated by Super-Self Tech LLC. When we say “we,” that’s who we mean. Contact us anytime: info@joinsuperself.com · 773-705-6150.
What we collect
From students, in MoodCheck:
- Check-ins: the feeling they pick, why they feel that way in their own words, and what they chose to do about it.
- Help alerts: when a student taps “I need help now,” the alert, their note, and the counselor’s resolution record.
- Account details: name, email, grade, class, school, and teacher/counselor assignments. Date of birth is used only to enforce the under-13 parent-consent gate.
- Parent consent records for students under 13.
- Program surveys: pre/post responses tied to the curriculum. Participation is voluntary and students may skip any question.
What we never collect: no location data, no photos, audio, or video, no browsing history, no biometric data, and nothing from a student’s personal device outside the program.
This website collects nothing on its own. If you email us or use a contact form, we use your message only to respond.
How we use it
- To run the program: show students their check-in tools, route help alerts to counselors instantly, and generate reports for the school.
- To evaluate the program in de-identified, aggregate form — no names, emails, or student IDs, designed so it cannot reasonably be re-linked to a student.
What we never do: we never sell student data. No advertising, no third-party trackers, no behavioral profiling, no sharing for marketing. Ever.
Who else touches the data
Only the services required to run MoodCheck, each obligated under its own terms to protect it:
- DigitalOcean — hosts our servers and database.
- Resend — delivers help-alert notification emails to counselors.
- Anthropic — powers optional AI counselor briefs. Student data is sent to Anthropic only when a counselor requests a brief, only for that student, and Anthropic does not use API data to train models.
Backups are encrypted and stored off-site with Backblaze. No other third party receives student data.
How we protect it
- Role-based access. Students, teachers, counselors, parents, and admins each see only what their role needs. Nobody sees everything; nobody sees another school’s data.
- Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text. Sign-in sessions expire automatically. Login attempts are rate-limited.
- Encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and our off-site backups are encrypted before they leave our server.
- Audit logging. Staff account previews and every help-alert resolution are recorded with who did it and when.
- Firewall, hardened logins, and automatic security updates on our servers.
How long we keep it
Active program data is kept for the duration of the school’s agreement plus one year for reporting. Schools can request deletion of individual records at any time; we complete deletions within 30 days of a verified request. Encrypted backups are kept for 30 days.
Your rights
Parents may request to see, correct, or delete their child’s data at any time — through the school district or directly at info@joinsuperself.com. Students may skip any check-in or survey question; participation is always voluntary.
Children under 13
MoodCheck is used in schools under the school’s authorization. Accounts for students under 13 are created inactive until a parent provides consent. Districts may require opt-in parental consent, and the program supports it.
Schools & districts
We treat program records as education records. Super-Self acts as a “school official” under a written agreement with each district, or under written parental consent. Each school’s data belongs to that school.
An important boundary: MoodCheck is an early-warning tool, not a crisis service. We route help alerts to the school’s designated staff instantly; the school is responsible for responding. The app directs students in crisis to call or text 988.
Districts should review our practices with their own counsel before deployment. We’ll work with your district on a Data Privacy Agreement (DPA), including state-specific terms such as Illinois SOPPA.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that affects student data, we’ll update the effective date above and notify participating schools before the change takes effect.
